AGRI 61 (formerly AEC 1) - Agricultural Extension and Communication  is designed to provide a basic understanding of extension and advisory services in agriculture and rural development and the critical role of communication as instrument to effect changes in behavior of target clients of extension towards adoption of innovation. The course provides an overview by mapping extension’s “territory,” that is, its definitions, nature, and functions and proceeds with the context in which agricultural extension operates.

The course also covers the history, philosophy, principles, processes and theories of agricultural extension, communication, and rural advisory services and introduces students to career options, skills and practical competencies required of extension professionals.
